I'm waiting for the subtitles or the voice-over. What an utter hoot this living in the 21st century! The only two words I can make out in the clip are "Zen" and "satori." Thanks, Harry, for sending this my way via Jordan.

Holy crap! :)
Just heard from a friend who saw the clip and speaks Japanese that it is "very sensationalized" ... as the tone indicates. Just the way they say "satori" makes me cringe. I see a remake starring Brad Pitt as Dogen. Please, Buddha, not Tom Cruise!
I agree. Quite Hollywood like. Anyway the begining is a tanka in a particular rhythm:
Haru wa Hana
Natsu Hototogisse
Aki wa tsuki
Fuyu yuki saete
tsusushi karikeri
Flowers are in Spring
In summer the bird
in Autumn the moon
and in winter the snow
It is quite chilly now
Thank you again for this wonderful blog, anyway.
Kuma Taigu
Thanks for posting. The tanka at the start is probably Dogen's most well known. It's also inscribed into a huge rock at the entrance to Eiheiji.
Hollywood or not, it may well expose younger people and garner interest in one of Japan's most amazing stories.
I doubt they'll be going into the Shobogenzo in too much detail, it'll be a biopic.
He does say, at one point in the trailer, "Zazen is not done to achieve Satori."
